Our transportation and home for the next year or two, is a Nissan Patrol 3.0 TDi (GU/Y61) 2004 modell with a few modifications. The Patrol is an excellent platform for a reliable and capable overland vehicle, and with some extra features, we believe it can support two people for long periodes away from the beaten tracks. Below is an overview of the most significant modifications.

The new suspension is a 120 mm/5 inch lift with HD coils, adjustable HD shocks, HD steering dampener, adjustable link arms, dropped radius arms, and adjustable panhards. Later, the steering rods have been upgraded to HD high tensile steel, and front break discs replaced with DBA slotted rotors. Tires are Goodyear Wrangler MT/R 35x12,5-15 on Mickey Thompson Classic II alloy wheels (15x10). On my way north through USA, the front drive shaft was replaced with a double cardan drive shaft from Tom Wood.

Axles are geared with 5.42:1 (replaced 4.625:1), and the low range transfer gear is reduced from 1:2.02 to 1:3.75 (85%). Hubs are manual AVMs. Rear axle has an original Nissan diff-locker, and an ARB air locker is installed in the front axle. The air locker is operated with an onboard air system, powered by a Warn SPI compressor with a 10 liter/2.5 gal air tank. The air system has air outlets front and rear for airing up tires.
