Finding a place for three vehicles to camp in Taganga was hard, but we camped at the Taganga Dive Shop which had a very friendly owner. A room was opened up so we had toilet and hot shower. They also have rooms. Nice and quiet overnight.


Los Naranjos

Camped on the beach under some threes. A great place for a final camp by the Caribbean. They had toilets and cold showers. Filled the water tank and found out it was full of swimming creatures – so no good water!! Free coffee.



Ocana Camp On Farm NA

When we looked around in Ocaña for a place to camp some locals found us and let us camp on their country side property. Looked like it would be possible to camp at Los Estoraques Natural Park N8 13.254 W73 14.310 , 1461 m, which might be the reason for coming to this area in the first place.


North of Rio Negro on Highway 45

Camped on gravel/grass next to a building so we had shelter when it rained. Power, toilet and cold shower. They had a restaurant we did not use except for coffee.


San Gil

Camped on a gravel parking lot. Toilet was open all night. People was swimming in the river, did not look to tempting for us and we do not know about showers. No other facilities. There was a few buildings and cafes around and when we arrived there was only on that was open. We paid there, but do not know if that was right according to where we parked.


North of Santa Ana on highway 45

Camped in a gravel parking lot a bit away from the road. A room was opened for us so we could use the toilet and hot shower. Quiet overnight.


Villa de Leyva

Camped in their parking lot. Good water to fill up tanks. Nice and quiet location outside town (15 min walk), good facilities and a kitchen we could use. Nice and clean toilet and hot showers. WIFI.



Cranky Crock Hostal N4 36.001 W74 04.197 2626m

Price: 20.000 per bunk bed

It was a secure parking next door to the hostel, but 2,60 meters is the limit to get into the parking lot (there are other parking options a few blocks away). Good bunk beds with big lockers under the bed with power outlets. The hostel had a kitchen where you could cook your own food and free coffee all day. Big TV for watching movies, WIFI, laundry and hot showers. We stayed in a dorm, but they had private rooms also. We thought it was a good location for staying in Bogotá.


Tatacoa Desert

Camped on the gravel parking lot next to the observatory. Toilet was open all night and there were some outdoor showers we did not try. Really quiet at night.

We camped on the grassy parking lot of the museum. On facilities after the opening hours of the museum (8-16). Night guard walked around at night. Next to the road, but no traffic at night. The road up to Tierradentro is rough and narrow, but no problem for a 2 wheel drive. We camped next to a French Mercedes Sprinter.

Camped on the gravel parking lot of this hotel and balenario, it was on Highway 45. Nice location. The clean toilets (with toilet seats and paper) was open overnight and they had showers, but we did not try them. Huge and good dinner portions that we paid 32.500 pesos for including some beers.


San Agustin

Camped on a grassy area in a small slope, but leveled it out with rocks. Nice location and quiet except for the “guard” dogs that barked a lot some night. Kitchen was available so we could cook our own food. Ping pong table and hammocks. They had WIFI but it did not work when we were there. We ordered some of their good home made whole wheat breads.


Laguna de la Cocha

A Swiss Chalet in a nice location. We camped on the gravel parking lot. Toilet was open all night, but we never asked for a shower. Large dinner portions and it was good, and we were seated in front of the fire place!! We paid 44.000 pesos for two dinners, juice and a glass of wine. They had WIFI for 1000 pesos per hour.



Playa Aruba????

Camped on the gravel soccer field. Aruba is a hotel with swimming pools so we had access to the pools. Toilet was open all night and the showers were hot. WIFI in the reception and at the pool. Good restaurant. We filled out water tank here.


North of Cotopaxi National Park

Road up from Machachi was a bit rough and took a while. Camped in the parking lot. Fantastic location with amazing views to Cotopaxi (on clear days). Facilities was great and it is a perfect place to relax (no WIFI) and we had three meals included every day. Perfect location for the sunset is the Jacuzzi!!

Camped in the parking lot of the hotel, not too nice, but it has a perfect location in the city center. Toilet and shower by the reception. WIFI in the reception.

Camped on a grassy spot and could use the toilet inside the house next door. A shower would have been available in one of their cabins, but we did not use it. Good WIFI, power and water. A bit outside the city center, but it should take 25 minutes to walk in.

Camped on the gravel parking lot down by the road. Had water, power and WIFI at the parking lot. Toilets was open all night and the showers was nice and hot. The hostals facilities were great with hammocks, swimming pool, great views and a good restaurant.



San Ignacio

Camped the secure parking of the hotel that was muddy with grass. The parking was small and big rigs might have a problem to turn around. The toilets were in the parking lot and open all night. A couple of minutes walking into the city center.

Kuelap Ruins

Camped on the grassy parking lot of the Kuelap Ruins. Amazing view, nice and quiet overnight. No facilities, but there flush toilets up at the ruins about 1 km away.



Room at Hospedaje La Petaca

Price: 30 sol

Right on the plaza. We could park the car right outside the hostel, on the plaza and the Police Station was 30 meters away. We had our own bathroom and hot shower.

Hacienda in the hill on the west side of Cajamarca city center. We were allowed to camp in the parking lot of the Hacienda and we had dinner in the restaurant. Toilet open all night and there was cold showers that we did not try. WIFI included. Road up is narrow and a big rig might have a problem.



Camping Huanchaco RV Park

Price: 40 Sol

Small grass area next to pool, behind locked gates. Power, WIFI, a room was opened up so we could have a hot shower, they do laundry service, short walking distance to the beach and town.

Lago Paron

No facilities, or there were some toilets there, but they were so bad that we did not use them. Road up to the lake is quite narrow and rough a few places. Beautiful view.


Huanuco Ruin

No facilities, only toilets by the entrance to the ruins. Beautiful location, really quiet and peaceful.

Camped behind the gates to a small hotel. Toilet, shower (we did not try it) and WIFI. To get to Tunaspampa you have to get a cross a bridge, did not look like the best so your vehicle should not be to big.


La Florida

Camped in the parking lot of the Hacienda. It is a working Hacienda run by a German family, but most of it is redone to accommodate tourists. They have camping area for tents in the garden with toilet and hot showers. WIFI. They do have a restaurant and bar.

We arrived late at night and this hotel was the first place we found with secure parking. We booked into a double room and the price included breakfast. Really nice location, a few meters from the plaza, and we ended up staying two nights. WIFI.

We did not stay here, but looked at the location because we thought about moving to a cheaper place. Hostal with secure parking, maybe possible to camp in the parking lot. Good location for exploring town.


San Fransisco

Price for a double room in a really basic hostal, shared bathroom. Parking outside the hostal that is next to the police station. A lot of traffic noise at night.

Double room with shared bathroom. Wifi. The hostal has no parking, but we were allowed to park in front of the police station, a few meters away, as long as it was just for one night.

We parked the car at a private house while we spent a night in Aguas Calientes and looked at Machu Picchu. In Aguas Calientes we had no reservations, but we had no problems finding a cheap hostal. We stayed in Hostal One, not too nice, but it was just for a few hours’ sleep. Double room with hot shower cost 35 Sol.

Camp on grassy area. Power, Wifi, access to kitchen, shared one bathroom with toilet and shower with all the campers. When we were 15-20 people in the campground one bathroom is not enough. Possible to by fresh orange juice and eggs from the hens in the campground (nice but they were really noisy in the morning). We stored our car here for 10 Sol a day while we flew back home to Norway.


Rio Santa Rosa

La Paz

La Paz, south

Difficult to find the right way up to Aba – Aba. Quite pricy. Nice location with good view of the surrounding hills. Water, toilet facility, do not know about the shower, but they do have a swimming pool.

Camped in a private garden, room for four-five small campers. They did not want their details on the internet, but a really nice location in town. Power, water, Wifi, toilet and hot shower, access to kitchen and room to sit inside. Ask other travelers for their location.

Ok place for a few nights, double room. Really hard to find a nice cheap double room in Mendoza. I did not like how the doble room in Indepedencia looked first time, but after looking at 10 more places it was ok. Perfect location in town.

This is a huge camping and picnic area about an hour south of Buenos Aires. Good facilities, but no internet.

Camping by the river in Zarate. Friendly owner and decent basic facilities. Hot showers, but no internet.

Nice and quiet campground by a river just 20 minutes off the highway. A good place to wait for shipping. They have hot showers, internet, power, and it is about 500 meters to a local supermarket/butcher. One hour to Zarate, and about two hours to Buenos Aires (but not many buses, so not easy to go into BA for a day). Run by a very friendly couple who also organize fishing trips on the local rivers. BBQs on each site.

This is a backpacker guesthouse 2 minutes walk from the “old” town in Colonia. Great little town with nice, quiet streets, and okay restaurants. Relatively expensive. Parked in the street just outside the hostel, no problems.

Campground a few kilometers east of Colonia. Basic facilities, no internet.
